J2A Pilgrimage
by The Rev. Dr. Mark D. Story
Some say that life is a journey. For those who are in Christ, life is a pilgrimage.
Bishop Ed visited St. Mary's on Pentecost. While he was here, he took time to meet with some of our young people who are going on a pilgrimage to Ireland in July. Every human life is on a journey from one point to another. For Christians, this journey takes on another dimension. Christians do not move aimlessly from one point to another; they move with purpose. In order to find one's personal story, that story must first be placed within a broader context. A pilgrimage is all about finding that larger context.
Christian life is all about being connected. Our lives are determined by the people and events to which we choose to be connected. The purpose of this journey, this pilgrimage, is to place these young people in a particular Christian context that predates American history by 1300 years. As they hear the voices of those who have preceded them in faith, we pray that they will choose to enrich their lives by staying connected.
